This report is currently available in Russian language only. However, we can provide an English version of the report within 3 weeks after receiving a payment.
This report is the first edition of a review of the lithium-ion battery (LIB) recycling market globally and in Russia.
The objective of the study is to analyze the LIB recycling market and the resulting "black mass" (or "black matter").
The object of the study is waste lithium-ion batteries of various chemical compositions and their resulting "black mass."
This work is a desk study. The following sources were used: data from statistical committees of the EAEU countries (including Rosstat, the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, and the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan); international databases of the UN (UNdata), World Bank, and Eurostat; international and European trade data (UN Comtrade, Trade Map); the Unified Information System in Procurement; rail transportation statistics; the SBIS database; foreign specialized companies; annual and quarterly reports of securities issuers; Industry and regional press, conference materials, websites of companies manufacturing and consuming the products under study; scientific and technical literature (e.g., elibrary), the Federal Institute of Industrial Property (FIPS) patent database; the InfoMine database, etc.
Research timeframe: 2021-2025, forecast to 2030.
Research geography: countries worldwide and the Russian Federation.
The report consists of 15 chapters and contains 75 pages, including 31 tables, 11 figures, and 1 appendix.
Chapter one presents the characteristics of various types of lithium-ion batteries (LIB).
Chapter two provides a general overview of the generation and collection of used LIBs, taking into account regional specifics.
Chapter three describes the environmental challenges of landfill disposal of LIBs.
Chapter four describes the main technologies used for recycling LIBs and "black mass."
Chapter 5 presents a general overview of the global market for used lithium-ion batteries and "black matter."
Chapter 6 analyzes the main trade flows for used lithium-ion batteries and "black matter" globally (2021-2025).
Chapter 7 examines global practices for recycling used lithium-ion batteries and China's leading role in this market.
Chapter 8 describes the key countries playing a role in the global "black matter" market for recycling used lithium-ion batteries.
Chapter 9 describes the main companies participating in the global "black matter" market.
