This report is the first publication of coal market research in Europe.

The purpose of the study is to analyze the coal market in Europe to understand the market situation in these countries and the prospects for Russia as an exporter of coal.

The object of study are energy and coking coals.

Work is desk study. As sources of information, data were used by the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation, IEA Coal Information 2018, IEA Coal Market Report 2018; IHS Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, (Australia); “Metal Expert”, statistics on railway transportation of the Russian Federation, BP Energy Outlook, UN bases, Eurostat.

Chronological scope of the study: 2010-2019; forecast for the period until 2030

Research geography: European countries - Germany, Turkey, Poland, Ukraine, Great Britain and Belarus.

 

The report consists of 6 parts, each of which has 8 chapters, contains 76 pages, including 31 figures and 25 tables.

The first chapter gives a description of the German coal market, presents volumes of production (2000-2018) and coal consumption (2015-2018). The main import flows to Germany of steam and coking coal, including from Russia (by companies in 2017-2019) are also shown. The pricing environment is presented, the main factors affecting the German coal market are identified.

The second chapter gives a description of the coal market in Turkey, presents the volumes of consumption and import of coal (2010-2018). The main import flows of steam and coking coal, including from Russia (by companies in 2017-2019) are also shown. The main factors affecting the Turkish coal market are identified.

The third chapter describes the coal market in Poland, presents the volumes of consumption and import of coal (2010-2018). The main import flows of steam and coking coal, including from Russia (by companies in 2017-2019) are also shown. The main factors affecting the Polish coal market are identified.

The fourth chapter describes the coal market of Ukraine, presents the volumes of production and consumption (2010-2018). The main import flows of steam and coking coal, including from Russia (by companies in 2017-2019) are also shown. The pricing environment is presented, the main factors affecting the Ukrainian coal market are identified.

The fifth chapter gives a brief description of the UK coal market, presents volumes of coal production and consumption (2010-2018). The main factors affecting the UK coal market are also shown.

The sixth chapter gives a brief description of the coal market in Belarus, presents the volumes of import and consumption of coal (2010-2018).
