This report is the first edition of a study of the lithium mineral resource base, the market for lithium hydroxide and spodumene concentrate in the world and in Russia.
The market has been monitored since 2017.
The purpose of the study is to analyze the mineral resource base of lithium, the markets of lithium hydroxide and spodumene concentrate - world and Russian.
The objects of research are lithium hydroxide, spodumene concentrate, lithium-containing ores and brines.
This work is a desk study. The sources of information were data from Rosstat, the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation, materials from the US State Geological Survey (USGS), data from UNdata, Trade Map, data from the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources of the Australian Government, annual and quarterly reports of securities issuers, data from the industry and regional press, as well as the Internet sites of manufacturers of lithium and its compounds.
Chronological scope of the study: 2017-2020; forecast - 2021-2026
Geography of research: the world market, the market of the Russian Federation.
The report consists of 5 Sections, contains 65 pages, including 16 Figures, 29 Tables and 2 Appendices.
The first chapter of the report is devoted to the lithium mineral resource base and types of lithium raw materials. The types of lithium raw materials and methods of its processing are described, brief characteristics of balance deposits of lithium, as well as promising raw material objects, are given. The information on the world production of lithium raw materials and the directions of its supplies from the main mining regions is given.
The second chapter of the report is devoted to the production of lithium hydroxide in the world and in the Russian Federation. The chapter provides data on production volumes in 2017-2020. Information on the regional distribution of production capacities for lithium hydroxide is presented.
The third chapter describes the largest manufacturers of lithium compounds and raw materials. In addition, the main world projects to increase the production of lithium and the production of its compounds are considered. The Russian manufacturers of lithium compounds and their projects to expand existing and create new capacities for the production of lithium hydroxide are described.
The fourth chapter is devoted to the analysis of the pricing environment of the markets for lithium hydroxide and spodumene concentrate, as well as lithium carbonate as a possible raw material for the production of hydroxide. The chapter provides an analysis of the dynamics of price indicators in 2017-2020 and the factors that determined this dynamics. It also provides a reasonable forecast of prices for these reagents for the period 2021-2026. in three versions (basic, optimistic and conservative).
The fifth chapter is devoted to the global consumption of lithium hydroxide. It provides data on the consumption of the reagent in 2017-2020. The sectoral structure of reagent consumption is presented. The data on regional directions of supply of lithium hydroxide (from producer to consumers) are presented. The chapter contains a reasonable forecast of global consumption of lithium hydroxide for 2021-2030.
