This report is available both in Russian and English versions.

The report is devoted to investigation of current standing of global market of cast iron in Russia and forecast of the market development up to 2010. The report consists of 11 Sections, contains 126 pages, including 65 Figures, 61 Tables, Introduction and Conclusion. This work is desk study. As information sources, we used data of Rosstat, Inter-state Committee on Statistics of CIS countries, Federal Customs Service of Russia, official domestic railage statistic of JSC RZhD (former Ministry of Railway Transport of Russia), Gosstandard of Russia, foreign statistic handbooks, FGUP TsNIIChermet, Rudprom, Chermet Corporation, IISI, MySteel, Japan Iron and Steel Federation, Iron & Steel Works of the Global, Eurostat, IPIA, CRU, Statistic Agency of Ukraine, sectoral (industrial) and regional press (including foreign), annual and quarterly reports of companies, as well as data from web-sites of company-producers.

The first Section of the report presents data on reserves of iron ore resources in the main mining countries: Australia, Brazil, India, Russia, Ukraine.
The second Section is devoted to analysis of the main processes of production of cast iron in the world. The Section gives the main characteristics of processes of cast iron production in the world.
The third Section is devoted to analysis of consumption of the main resources and fuel in blast furnace production in Russia, including data on specific consumption of iron ore resources and fuel in production of cast iron at some metallurgical enterprises of the country.
The fourth Section considers data on requirements, imposed on quality of cast iron. The Section presents data on chemistry of various cast irons, including in accordance with standards of China, which is leading producer of cast iron in the world now.
The fifth Section analyses tendencies of production of cast iron in the world. In the production, share of Asian countries, first of all, China, steadily increases. In latest years, rates increasing production of cast iron in the world outstrip rates of growth of steel production. Data on production of cast iron in the world and in distinct countries for the period of 2000-2006 are given, changing pattern of regional production of cast iron is shown, the greatest global producers of cast iron is identified.
The sixth Section analysis development of production of cast iron in leading country-producers, including China, Japan, Russia, Brazil, Japan, EU countries, Ukraine. The Section presents data on volumes of production, leading company- producers of cast iron, availability and volume of blast furnaces and their productivity, launching new capacities.
The seventh Section is devoted to analysis of current situation at world market of commodity cast iron. Leading suppliers of commodity cast iron at world market are Brazil and Russia. The Section considers tendencies of production of commodity cast iron in Brazil and Russia. The main problem of producers of commodity cast iron in Brazil is provision with charcoal. Nevertheless, Brazilian metallurgical companies plan expanding capacities on production of commodity cast iron.
The eighth Section is devoted to analysis of world trade in cast iron. The Section presents data on dynamics of volumes of world exports of cast iron, reveals the greatest exporters and importers of cast iron. The greatest exporters of cast iron are Brazil and Russia, whereas the main importers are USA, European countries, some Asian countries.
The ninth Section analyses tendencies of world consumption of cast iron, including in the greatest countries. Leading consumers of cast iron are China, Japan, Russia and USA. The first 3 country demonstrate increasing consumption of cast iron, owed, first of all, by increasing production of steel. Notice that, in the countries, the main rout of steelmaking is BOC technology, at relatively low, compared with a number of European countries and USA, share of electric steel.

The tenth Section analyses price conjuncture tendencies at world market of cast iron. A characteristic feature of global market of cast iron in latest years is increasing price level (except 2005). Conjuncture of market of cast iron depends on supply-demand balance of the product and level of prices on ferrous metal scrap and metallised resources. In latest years, a tendency increasing gap between prices on prices on cast iron and prices on ferrous metal scrap is in force.

In the 2nd half of 2006 and early 2007, at world market, highest levels of prices on cast iron were reached.
The 11th Section presents forecast of development of market of cast iron up to 2010. We expect further increasing demand for cast iron at world market. Rates of growth of production of cast iron will outstrip rates of expanding steelmaking in connection of domination of converter steel production method in China, as well as in India, where a number of large projects is to be realized, short supply of high-grade scrap, decreasing scrap supplies to world market from Russia and some other countries, and other reasons.
